Spicy red cabbage slaw is one of my go-to veggie side dishes. It’s so simple, doesn’t need to be cooked and the flavor is ridiculously good. I enjoy the combo of the cool cabbage and the heat of the hot sauce. The apple cider vinegar adds a great tang and compliments the other flavors so well. While other types of coleslaw and cabbage slaw have mayonnaise, this one has apple cider vinegar and some olive oil instead.

The reality is, that although this spicy slaw compliments other foods so well, I like to eat it alone. Seriously, it’s that good. Plus, it comes together so quickly, that you can make it and eat it as a salad at lunch, or with pork or chicken at dinner. Alone, the cabbage slaw is vegan and can be used as a condiment for all kinds of foods.

Eat the rainbow

We’ve all heard the term ‘eat the rainbow,’ and adding red cabbage to your diet is a great step towards eating colorful fruits and vegetables. Red cabbage is full of antioxidants, low in calories, has a good amount of fiber, vitamin C and vitamin K, as well as other nutrients.

I have made this recipe with a variety of different types of hot sauces, and I typically use whatever I have on hand. I love making this cabbage slaw with sriracha, but there are so many different hot sauces out there that would taste good. Try the recipe with your favorite hot sauce and then let me know in the comments how it tastes!

You can definite sub the apple cider vinegar for a different vinegar, but it will change the flavor of the slaw. Studies have shown that apple cider vinegar may have some health benefits, and is great to add to your diet.
